Hear our say 2011

Facebook has begun allowing developers to ask users for their mobile phone number and home addresses in a move that will show the best and worst of the Facebook Platform. A valid concern that most critics have immediately focused on how greedy developers will request the data in order to spam users. Strangers are also able to access this data and this may cause some inconvenience to the user.  However, the access of the mobile phone number and home address will allow friends to stay connected with each other. In my opinion, we should all limit our Facebook pages to family and real friends for safety purposes.
I feel that Facebook should also slow users down and convey the dangers of allowing others to access their contact and personal information more clearly by making this request a separate step with a bold warning, instead of a quiet, uniform addition to the list of permissions which users are familiar with and may not read carefully. Having bold warnings would reduce the threat of cyber bullying and .

Some interesting facts are:
·        Old people tend to babble by writing long paragraphs.
·        Kids tend to skip words by writing abbreviations or short forms
·        People are most positive in the morning as the status updates have positive messages
·        Negative emotions usually appear after 10 pm as people would be probably complain about how late they were up, how much work they still need to do and so on.
·        Updates with negative emotions receive more comments than those with positive emotions people probably try to console their friends as soon as possible.
·        People tend to use the same kind of words in status updates as their friends--particularly if they're referring to their family, using religious words, or swearing so as not to confuse others.
·         48% of 18 to 34 year olds check their Facebook as soon as they wake up showing that maybe Facebook really has taken over some peoples’ lives. Interestingly enough 48% of young Americans find out the news via Facebook, 750 million uploaded photos were sent to the site just on New Year’s weekend.

Facebook was launched in February 2004 by Harvard undergrad students as an alternative to the traditional student directory. By word of mouth, the news about Facebook spread like wildfire to other colleges in the US. Facebook  has now close to 15M monthly UVs and over 6B page views per month. At very high valuations, the site has completed two rounds of venture financing. The valuations are not confirmed. The first valuation was about $100M while the second valuation at $550M. Driven by the multiple acquisition offers that Facebook has reportedly turned down, latest was a rumored $750M offer, were these valuations. Already a generating significant revenue, Facebook also is an established real business despite valuation.

Marie, not her real name, has never seen her sister, Molly, not her real name, for 20 years. Using Facebook and other websites, she was able to reunite with her long lost sister. As their parents used to poor and could not afford to raise twins, Molly was adopted and welcomed into another family. Marie tried her best to find her using the Internet. However, she did not know her new surname. As a result, she was unsure who her sister was because they were thousands of people named Molly. Fortunately, she found the adoption papers and the people who had adopted her. They now use Facebook and letters to connect and communicate with each other.

Together let us stop cyber bullying by being kind to all. No one wants to be a victim of cyber bullying.
